Introduction to the School of Cyberspace Science and Technology (School of State Secrets Protection), Beijing Jiaotong University

The School of Cyberspace Science and Technology (School of State Secrets Protection) at Beijing Jiaotong University is among the earliest institutions in China to offer programs in information security and secrets protection studies. We are committed to cultivating compound cyberspace science and technology talents for the country who are politically reliable, technically proficient, good at management and well-versed in law, and actively play a leading role in cyberspace science and technology education and talent cultivation.

The history of the discipline and major construction of the school can be traced back to the establishment of the Information Security Architecture Research Center in 2001, which began to recruit master's and doctoral students in the field of information security. In 2003, the self-established secondary discipline of information security was officially established, and doctoral and master's students were recruited. In 2007, the Beijing Jiaotong University - National Institute of State Secrets Protection Joint Graduate Training Base was established to jointly cultivate graduate students in the field of secrets protection technology. In 2008, the information security discipline was rated as a key interdisciplinary discipline in Beijing (assessed as excellent in 2012), and the information security undergraduate major was opened in the same year. In 2011, the School of State Secrets Protection was established, which is the only school of state secrets protection in the capital region, and recruits undergraduate students in the fields of secrets protection and secrets management technology. In 2016, it was approved as one of the first batch of national first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points in cyberspace science and technology, and the discipline construction entered a new and rapid development period. In 2019, it was approved to set up a postdoctoral research station in cyberspace science and technology. In the same year, it was approved as a high-end and cutting-edge discipline in Beijing and undertook the construction work of the "New Generation Information Technology - Data Security and Privacy Protection" discipline direction. The information security major of the school is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, and the confidentiality technology is a first-class undergraduate major construction point in Beijing.

The School is positioned at the forefront of domestic and international cyberspace science and technology development, fully leveraging its disciplinary characteristics and advantages. It has established national and provincial-level platforms including the Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Transportation Data Security and Privacy Protection, the Educational Industry Applied Cryptography Research Center, and the Central and State Organs Secrets Protection Training Platform. The School has undertaken numerous key projects including National Natural Science Foundation Key Projects, Key Projects in Secrets Protection Research, and Major Projects of China Railway Corporation. Significant achievements have been made in areas such as Internet of Things (IoT) security, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence security, cryptographic protocols and applications. These achievements have been implemented across various domestic industries including defense security, secure intelligent transportation, and smart cities. These endeavors have made outstanding contributions to serving major national and industry strategic needs, supporting local economic development, functioning as a think tank, and educating and cultivating talent. The School has developed into an integrated base for cyberspace science and technology research and graduate education with theoretical foundations, technical capabilities, and application platforms, forming a relatively complete teaching and research support system and talent cultivation environment.

The School actively addresses the information security and secrets protection training needs of government agencies, organizations, and enterprises. It has developed a comprehensive training curriculum system covering technology, management, offensive-defensive practices, and awareness enhancement. The School has assembled a faculty team centered on members of the National Secrets Protection Teacher Database, Beijing Secrets Protection Lecture Group, and frontline information security and secrets protection experts, forming a professional, standardized, and vocational information security and secrets protection education and training system. In recent years, the School has conducted over 30 specialized training sessions for the Ministry of Education, National Energy Administration, China Railway Construction Corporation, and Provincial Confidentiality Bureaus, successfully completing confidentiality rotation training for over 200,000 personnel from organizations within and beyond Beijing.

The School boasts outstanding talents including National Cyberspace Science and Technology Outstanding Teachers, National Secrets Protection Professional Education Outstanding Teachers, National Secrets Protection Advanced Workers, Ministry of Education New Century Talents, Beijing Secrets Protection System Advanced Individuals, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education Confidentiality Management Teaching Committee, and Deputy Director of the Education Branch of China Confidentiality Association. The School has been recognized as a National Advanced Collective in Confidentiality Work (the only school selected nationwide) and has received over ten provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological awards, including the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award and the Secrets Protection Science and Technology Award.

The School adheres to the overall talent cultivation goals of "excellent character, broad foundation, innovative thinking, outstanding ability, and professional expertise." It has cultivated a group of professional talents in cyberspace science and technology and secrets protection fields, with over 140 students winning awards in various national and provincial-level technology competitions, including the College Students Information Security Competition. Graduates are highly welcomed by employers, with the majority finding employment in national government departments, certain key national sectors, well-known internet enterprises, major banks, and research institutions.

BJTU Network Security, Strength "Out of the Circle"

In 2025, the intramural information security competition attracted 37 students, and 18 of them won prizes. In the past three years, the students have won 42 national awards in the National College Students Information Security Competition and the "Strong Network Cup", among which the runner-up of the 2024 DEF CON Autopilot CTF Global Challenge is the highest honor of domestic universities.
