Overview

Research Overview

As one of the earliest institutions in China to carry out information security and confidentiality talent training, the School of Cyber Security (National Security College) of Beijing Jiaotong University has established a comprehensive and in-depth research system oriented to national strategic needs and cutting-edge technology development. Rooted in the international cyber security and industrial digital transformation, our research focuses on breaking through core technical bottlenecks and providing high-level intellectual support for the protection of cyber security and key industries.

Research Foundation & Academic Status

Our research journey began with the establishment of the Information Security Architecture Research Center in 2001. We were among the first batch of institutions nationwide to obtain the doctoral degree authorization for the first-level discipline of cyber space security in 2016, and were approved as a Beijing High-precision Discipline in 2019, undertaking the construction of the "New Generation Information Technology - Data Security and Privacy Protection" direction. With a complete research ecosystem covering theory, technology and application platforms, we have formed a mature scientific research support system and talent training core, and have become a high-level cyber security research and talent training base.

Core Research Directions

Combining disciplinary advantages and industrial demands, we have built three characteristic and leading research directions:

  1. Intelligent Transportation & IoT Security
Focusing on the security challenges of rail transit, connected vehicles and smart city scenarios, we specialize in research on vehicle-road coordination security protocols, railway big data privacy protection, and industrial IoT terminal security. Our achievements have been applied to major projects such as the Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway and Xiong'an New Area intelligent transportation system, providing core security guarantees for the digital transformation of transportation industries.

  2. Blockchain & Web3.0 Security
We conduct in-depth research on decentralized identity authentication, smart contract vulnerability detection, and anti-malicious takeover of blockchain systems. Our team won the Distinguished Paper Award at the top international conference ACM CCS for its research on DPOS blockchain governance security, marking the first such award for Chinese scholars in the blockchain field of cybersecurity. We have also developed a general framework for provable repair of neural network defects that outperforms existing methods in key task indicators. In cryptography, we focus on advanced technologies including homomorphic encryption, multi-party secure computation, and post-quantum cryptography, supporting the construction of security systems for blockchain-based Web 3.0 applications.

  3. Cryptography Technologies & AI Applications
Addressing technical frontiers in AI security, we explore adversarial machine learning, deepfake detection, and provable repair of neural network defects. We have developed a general framework for provable repair of neural network defects that outperforms existing methods in key task indicators. In cryptography, we research advanced cryptography algorithms and privacy computing technologies, supporting the construction of the education industry application infrastructure.

Research Platforms & Conditions

We have built a multi-level platform system integrating national, provincial and ministerial levels to support innovative research:

  • National-level platforms: Central and State Organs Confidentiality Education and Training Platform, Education Industry Application Cryptography Research Center

  • Provincial-level platforms: Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Transportation Data Security and Privacy Protection

These platforms provide advanced experimental environments for vulnerability mining, security analysis, and large-scale system security verification, and undertake important tasks such as national confidentiality technology training and cyber security exercise organization.

Research Achievements

  • Project undertakings: We have undertaken major projects including national key R&D programs, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and major projects of China State Railway Group, forming a systematic research layout.

  • Academic influence: Our research results are formally published in top international conferences such as ACM CCS and IEEE S&P, and we have won more than 10 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards including the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award.

International Cooperation & Academic Exchange

We have established long-term cooperative relationships with world-renowned universities including Purdue University (USA), Imperial College London (UK), and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). Through joint research, student exchange programs, and international conference participation, we actively participate in global cyber security governance discussions and promote the internationalization of our research achievements.

Guided by the national "Cyber Power" strategy, we will continue to deepen interdisciplinary research, strengthen industry-university research integration, and strive to build a world-class cyber security research center that serves national needs and leads technological innovation.

2024 Open Research Project Application Guide

Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Transportation Data Security and Privacy Protection

Release Time: 2024-10-30, 12:00:00

Laboratory Introduction

The Laboratory of Intelligent Transportation Data Security and Privacy Protection, affiliated with Beijing Jiaotong University, was recognized as a Beijing Key Laboratory in 2016. The laboratory is positioned at the international forefront of intelligent transportation data security and privacy protection technology, and combines the characteristics of high demand and rapid development in China's transportation industry. It organically integrates theoretical research on data security and privacy protection with application research oriented towards the transportation domain, enabling data security and privacy protection methods and technologies to provide comprehensive safeguards for the rail transportation industry.

Eligibility for Open Project Applications

To fully utilize the research and academic exchange platform of the Beijing Key Laboratory, promote scientific collaboration, foster academic exchange, enhance research capacity, and encourage innovation, the laboratory has established an Open Research Fund open to researchers from domestic and international universities, research institutes, and other scientific institutions. Applicants are warmly invited to conduct collaborative research through project-based cooperation.

The basic eligibility criteria include:

1. Holding an associate senior professional title or above, or having obtained a doctoral degree.

2. Applicants with intermediate-level professional titles must submit written recommendations from two peer experts holding senior-level professional titles.

3. Duplicate applications for projects already funded at the provincial, ministerial, or higher levels will not be accepted.

Supported Research Areas

The 2024 open research projects will support research on theories and applications of transportation data security and privacy protection. The scope of proposals includes: network security architecture for intelligent transportation, data collaborative security protection technologies for intelligent transportation, data privacy protection technologies for intelligent transportation, and data traceability and security detection technologies for urban traffic monitoring devices.

All proposals must align with the open project scope, exhibit novel academic ideas, clear research objectives, detailed content, sound theoretical grounding, and reasonable technical approaches. Projects will be funded based on the principle of "open competition and merit-based selection."

Application Procedure

1. Applicants should download and complete the research proposal (see Attachment 1, in duplicate) and the task agreement (see Attachment 2, in quadruplicate). After obtaining the consent and signatures from their organization and affixing the official seal, please send them back by mail, and also submit an electronic version to the email address liqiong@bjtu.edu.cn.

2. The deadline for open research project applications this year is November 15, 2024.

3. The funding amount for open research project applications this year is 10,000 to 20,000 yuan per item, with a duration of one year.
